Broken Shower Knob- screw snapped off…?
Hi. I have a problem, please help me. In my shower I have single knob to turn on/off the water, well the knob cracked and fell off. I really needed a shower and didn’t have time to get to the hardware store to replace the knob so I used pliers (i know, i’m bad) to turn it on and off. It get’s worse, it was working so I just didn’t fix it. Yesterday the screw snapped off. I don’t even know how to get started. I went and bought a whole new kit today, with the faceplate, screws, knob etc. The problem is, I think whne the screw snapped I no longer have the ability to get to the diverter stem. Any ideas? Should I call a plumber? Thanks so much!!
not sure if this will help you or not, but i believe that there should be a NUT holding that stem in place and not allowing the stem to come out when you turn the water off and on. if there is a nut around that stem you need someone with a deep socket wrench to take that nut off so you then can take that whole stem out and replace it with a new one. i don’t have that particular system, but all the ones i do have work the way i’m telling you. i’ve had to replace several of them over the years. i’m not sure what the kit will do for you, as far as i’m concerned you need a new stem or someone who can
drill a hole in that broke off screw and insert a screw reverser
tool. (i forget what it’s called) hope it’s of some use.
those stems i talked about just screw all the way out. turn it counterclockwise.
