Sealant Never Wax
Do wooden floors take a lot of upkeep?

I have never lived in a house with wooden floors, but I have lived with, carpet, slate and tiles and I don't like any of them. I really want wooden floors in our new house but my husband is whining and finding every excuse possible to not have them, the latest excuse is that they take a lot of upkeep, something 'he was told'. Some random person on the street could tell him that the sky is really pink and all humans are colour blind and he'd believe them I'd swear.
So, do wooden floors really take up a lot of upkeep, or is that a lot of bull. I wanted hard wood floors in a lighter colour so as to not show up so much dust and footprints.
Do you have to wax them and reseal them every few years, or do modern sealants last longer?

As long as you have a good finish on them, and keep them clean, they will look good for years between refinishings. Make sure that they apply a MINIMUM of 3 coats of polyurethane (oil based is more durable than water based). Sand is the worst enemy of the finish, so sweep/vacuum them frequently. Use area rugs if you want to introduce some accent colors to the room. Wood flooring is timeless. Good luck.
